Green Leaders, In-Depth Student Reflections
In the bustling corridors of GKMPS Kavalbyrasandra, excitement filled the air as students delved into the mysteries hidden beneath their feet and soared high to unravel the tales whispered by the sky. Led by their intrepid mentor, Mr. Darbar, and supported by the visionary Headmistress, Jeejabai Shindhe, these young minds embarked on a journey of discovery and empowerment through the Veggie4School programme.
Meet the Soil Sleuths: Abhinaya, Abhishek, and a host of other eager learners, each ready to unearth the secrets of the soil and composting and translate their newfound knowledge into action within their community.
With shovels in hand and curiosity in their hearts, the students plunged into the depths of the soil, eager to uncover its hidden treasures. Guided by Mr. Darbar, they embarked on a soil testing workshop, exploring the textures, colours, and moisture levels of different soil types and discovering the unique qualities that make each one suitable for different plants.
As they sifted through layers of earth, the students marvelled at the diversity beneath their feet—from sandy shores to clay jungles, each soil type telling its own story of growth and nourishment. During the Jar Test Journey, they watched in awe as the soil settled into layers, revealing their garden’s intricate composition that sustains life.
Armed with knowledge and enthusiasm, the Soil Sleuths embarked on a composting adventure, turning kitchen scraps into nutrient-rich soil. With Mr. Darbar’s guidance, they selected the perfect spot for their compost pile, layered it with care, and learned the importance of moisture balance and regular mixing to accelerate the composting process.
As they stirred and nurtured their compost pile, the students witnessed the transformative power of organic recycling, turning waste into wealth for their garden and community.
In a delightful twist, the Soil Sleuths explored the link between healthy soil and nutritious eating through a fruity exploration workshop. With a rainbow of fruits as their guide, they discovered the vital role of vitamins and minerals in maintaining a healthy body.
Layering fruits like strawberries for topsoil and bananas for subsoil, they crafted a delicious model of the earth’s layers, each bite a reminder of the symbiotic relationship between soil health and human well-being.
As Chapter 2 of their Veggie4School journey unfolded, the eager students of GKMPS Kavalbyrasandra embarked on a captivating exploration of soil and compost, revealing a world teeming with secrets and possibilities.
