Students Turn Waste into Wealth Through the Veggie4School Program
In the bustling corridors of GKMPS Cox Town, a spirit of eco-consciousness thrived among the students as they eagerly embraced the challenge of becoming stewards of the environment. Under the nurturing guidance of their dedicated teacher, Mrs. Shantha Mary, and with the support of their school community, these young Eco-Explorers embarked on a journey of discovery and sustainability through the Veggie4School program.
Among the passionate Eco-Explorers were Ashwin, Priyanka, Chaitra, and a host of other enthusiastic learners, each with a shared goal of nurturing the planet and fostering a greener future for generations to come.
Chapter 2 of their Veggie4School adventure focused on the vital connection between soil health and sustainable gardening practices. Armed with shovels and enthusiasm, the students dove headfirst into the world of composting, eager to transform waste into wealth for their school’s garden. They learned to harness the power of organic materials found in their schoolyard, turning them into nutrient-rich compost through the composting process.
Under Mrs. Shantha Mary’s guidance, the Eco-Explorers carefully monitored their compost piles, ensuring the perfect balance of green and brown materials to facilitate decomposition. As they tended to their compost, they gained a deeper appreciation for the natural cycles that sustain life on earth and the importance of minimizing waste in their community.
With each turn of the compost pile, the students felt a sense of pride and accomplishment, knowing that they were actively contributing to the health of their school’s garden and reducing their environmental footprint in the process. They eagerly anticipated the day when they could use their homemade compost to nourish the plants that would thrive in their school’s green spaces.
As the chapter drew to a close, the Eco-Explorers reflected on their journey with a sense of gratitude and optimism. They had learned valuable lessons about soil health, waste reduction, and the power of collective action to make a difference in the world.
