GKMPS Lingarajapuram Students Explore Soil, Composting, and Sustainability

In the vibrant halls of GKMPS Lingarajapuram, students eagerly embraced the opportunity to delve into the mysteries of soil and composting, guided by their dedicated teachers, Mr. Mahesh, Mrs. Varalakshmi, and Mrs. Sumathi. Among them were Afsaparveen, Aishwarya C, Aishwarya P, Albert Raj, Aliya Banu, and many more, each ready to embark on a journey of exploration and discovery.

As the workshop unfolded, students enthusiastically participated in various activities designed to deepen their understanding of soil composition, composting techniques, and the importance of healthy eating. Through hands-on experiences such as the Jar Shaking Test, they explored the different layers of soil, from the sandy surface to the nutrient-rich depths, gaining a firsthand appreciation for the complexity beneath their feet.

The highlight of the workshop was the Fruity Exploration segment, where students engaged in a creative exercise to understand the journey from soil to snack. With fruits as their medium, they layered strawberries, bananas, and other fruits in jars, mimicking the stratification of soil layers. This immersive activity not only reinforced their understanding of soil composition but also underscored the vital link between healthy soil and nutritious food.

Despite the intricacies of the subject matter, students eagerly absorbed new information about soil and composting, eagerly raising their hands to answer questions and share their insights. Their enthusiasm was palpable as they discovered the transformative power of composting in reducing waste and enriching soil fertility.

Upon completing the workshop, students reflected on their experiences, expressing varying levels of confidence in applying their newfound knowledge to their communities. While some felt ready to take action, others expressed uncertainty, highlighting the diverse perspectives and readiness levels among the participants.

Overall, the workshop was a blend of fun and learning, with students unanimously agreeing that it was an enriching experience. Their engagement and enthusiasm throughout the sessions spoke volumes about their dedication to environmental stewardship and their eagerness to make a positive impact on their surroundings.
